YSRC Joint Management Plan Session

I attended the Joint Management Plan Session at the Perth office of the Yamatji Southern Regional Corporation on Monday, August 25, 2025. As a Yamatji community member, I participated in discussions on developing the Joint Management Plan for the Yamatji Southern Conservation Estate, which covered sharing thoughts on the plan, identifying threats and opportunities for parks and reserves, meeting the planning team, and contributing community perspectives. The session started promptly with a clear agenda introduction, featured a circular seating arrangement for attendees including elders and representatives, and included structured yet flexible discussions with small group brainstorming on cultural sites, water management, and sky values like stargazing heritage. Facilitators ensured all inputs were noted on whiteboards without dismissal, and a BBQ break at 1:30 pm offered grilled sausages, chicken, salads, soft drinks, water, and fruit platters in generous portions, allowing informal conversations with invited family and friends. Post-break, the group reviewed ideas, addressed questions like implementation timelines phased to mid-2026, distributed maps and contact details, and collected feedback forms rated highly for organization, ending at 4:00 pm with promises of email summaries.

This session was exceptionally well-organized, inclusive, and impactful, providing a genuine platform for community contributions that will effectively shape the conservation estate's future, and I recommend similar events to all Yamatji community members.
